We are Human Rights Experts, a London-based practice that supplies country conditions evidence to asylum and human rights cases. Our reports and testimony are used in UK First-tier and Upper Tribunals, US immigration courts, Canadian IRB hearings and EU national asylum procedures.
A solicitor or attorney instructs us on a specific case. We match the instruction to an expert who knows the country, and that expert writes an independent report answering the questions the court needs answered.
What else may be asked
Depending on the case, the same expert may be asked for a short expert letter, for verification of documents, or to give oral testimony in person, by video or by phone. The work is case by case, with no fixed volume and no retainer unless we agree one separately.
Who we are looking for
First-hand knowledge of a country, and the ability to write it down
Background
Lawyers, academics, researchers, journalists and former practitioners with first-hand knowledge of a country or region.
Provenance
People who can show where their knowledge comes from: fieldwork, practice, published research, service in institutions, or sustained monitoring.
Written English
Court-ready written English matters more than spoken fluency. Previous expert witness experience is welcome but not required, and we explain the format the court expects.
What we ask of you
Four things, and they are not negotiable
Independence. The report is evidence for the court, not advocacy for one side.
Sources that can be checked, cited as you go.
Honest limits. If a question falls outside what you can speak to, say so in the report.
Deadlines. Hearing dates do not move for us, and a confidentiality agreement, because case material is sensitive.
What you get from us
A brief, a format and a named profile
Instructions matched to your country and your grounds, not sent out at random.
A clear brief for every instruction: what the court is asking, the deadline and the scope.
Our report structure and sourcing guidance, so the format is not something you work out alone.
A profile page in our public expert directory once we have worked together, and correspondence with the instructing firm handled by us.
How we select
We do not list anyone we have not spoken to
01
We read the CV
And look at the countries and grounds you can cover.
02
We talk
About one or two scenarios taken from real cases, so both sides can judge the fit.
03
We agree terms
Terms and the confidentiality agreement, and you go into the roster for your country.
Where we are looking hardest
Countries where we currently have no expert
We cover 120+ countries, but these are the gaps we are actively trying to close. If one of them is yours, say so in the first line of your email.
