Refugee Convention Grounds Covered

I provide expert analysis on all five Refugee Convention grounds: political opinion, religion, ethnicity, membership of a particular social group (including LGBT and gender-based cases), and nationality with focus on the following countries:

Pakistan:
Persecution of political activists, journalists, lawyers, and members of opposition parties. Widespread abuse of blasphemy laws against religious minorities such as Christians, Ahmadis, and Shia Muslims. Ethnic discrimination against Baloch and Pashtun populations. Gender-based violence, including honour crimes, and threats to LGBT individuals. Risk of harm and discrimination for deported nationals and returnees.

Afghanistan:
Severe persecution under the Taliban regime, particularly targeting former government employees, military personnel, journalists, women’s rights activists, and human rights defenders. Religious persecution of Shia Muslims (especially Hazaras), Christians, and converts. Ethnic violence and systematic exclusion of minority groups. Extreme gender-based restrictions and brutal treatment of LGBT persons. Risk of statelessness for displaced Afghans.

Bangladesh:
Political repression targeting members of opposition parties, especially the BNP. Attacks on secularists, religious minorities (including Hindus and Christians), and LGBT individuals. Ethnic violence against indigenous groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Gender-based violence, trafficking, and social stigma against survivors. Nationality-related discrimination affecting stateless populations and Rohingya refugees.
