Expert at The Human Rights Experts, an international expert witness organisation.
We provide expert witness reports for asylum cases worldwide, covering human rights violations, political persecution, and systemic oppression. Our reports are trusted by lawyers, courts, and immigration authorities, in full compliance with procedural standards and tribunal requirements in the UK (CPR Part 35, Upper Tribunal PD, First-tier Tribunal IAC PD), USA (Federal Rules of Evidence), Canada, and the EU.
I provide expert analysis on all five Refugee Convention grounds — political opinion, religion, ethnicity, membership of a particular social group (including LGBT and gender-based cases), and nationality — with a focus on the following countries:
Democratic Republic of the Congo: The DRC remains one of the most acute humanitarian crises in the world, with over 100 armed groups operating in the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri, perpetrating mass atrocities including massacres, forced displacement, and the widespread use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. The state security apparatus has been implicated in extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and the arbitrary detention of political opposition figures, journalists, and youth activists, particularly during election periods. Ethnic tensions between communities such as the Hema and Lendu in Ituri, and the targeting of Banyamulenge populations in the eastern highlands, have generated cycles of retaliatory violence. Women and girls face epidemic levels of conflict-related sexual violence, with perpetrators enjoying near-total impunity across both state and non-state forces. LGBT individuals have no legal protection and face severe social stigma, mob violence, and exploitation by security forces who use the threat of exposure as a tool of extortion.
Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville): The Republic of the Congo has been governed under a tightly controlled political system in which opposition parties face systematic obstruction, with leaders subjected to arbitrary arrest, politically motivated prosecution, and exile. The Pool region experienced intense military operations following post-election violence, resulting in civilian casualties, forced displacement, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure. Indigenous Pygmy communities in the northern forest regions endure severe discrimination, forced labour, and exclusion from land rights and public services. Gender-based violence is widespread, and customary practices including early and forced marriage persist in rural areas with limited state intervention. Same-sex conduct is not explicitly criminalized in the Penal Code, but LGBT individuals nonetheless face harassment, discrimination, and social persecution rooted in deeply conservative attitudes.
