Country Expert — Human Rights, Political Situation & Asylum Cases

Expert at The Human Rights Experts, an international expert witness organisation.
We provide expert witness reports for asylum cases worldwide, covering human rights violations, political persecution, and systemic oppression. Our reports are trusted by lawyers, courts, and immigration authorities, in full compliance with procedural standards and tribunal requirements in the UK (CPR Part 35, Upper Tribunal PD, First-tier Tribunal IAC PD), USA (Federal Rules of Evidence), Canada, and the EU.
I provide expert analysis on all five Refugee Convention grounds — political opinion, religion, ethnicity, membership of a particular social group (including LGBT and gender-based cases), and nationality — with a focus on the following countries:
Azerbaijan: The Azerbaijani government has consolidated authoritarian control over political life, with journalists, bloggers, opposition politicians, and civil society activists routinely subjected to fabricated criminal charges, prolonged pre-trial detention, and harsh prison conditions for criticizing the ruling establishment. Ethnic minorities, including Talysh, Lezgin, and Armenian-descended communities, face restrictions on cultural expression, language use, and political organization, with security services monitoring and suppressing expressions of ethnic identity perceived as threatening state unity. Women experience domestic violence at high rates, and despite the existence of a domestic violence law, enforcement is weak, reporting is stigmatized, and shelters are insufficient. LGBT individuals face severe societal hostility, police extortion and blackmail, and the absence of any legal protections, and independent religious communities — including non-state-approved Muslim groups, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Protestant congregations — face registration obstacles, raids, fines, and imprisonment for unauthorized religious activity.
Georgia: Georgian political opposition members and activists face increasing pressure through selective criminal prosecutions and surveillance, particularly those critical of the ruling party's policies toward Russia and democratic governance. Ethnic minorities, including Azerbaijani and Armenian communities in peripheral regions, encounter barriers in education, language access, and political representation, and displaced populations from Abkhazia and South Ossetia remain without durable solutions. Women face widespread domestic violence and femicide, with implementation of protective legislation remaining inadequate, and LGBT individuals are subjected to violent attacks, threats, and systematic intimidation by nationalist and religious extremist groups with limited police response or accountability.
